New Zealand Native Bush

We have started our learning by brainstorming everything we know about the New Zealand bush.

We drew a circle map in class about what we know. Here it is as a brainstorm:

In Term One we had a great time learning about the New Zealand Native Bush.
We visited the Maungatautari Ecological Island, where Gemma took us on Captain Kaka's Detective Trail.
As we used our detective skills to find the answer to our clue, we practiced our skills of observation, using our binoculars to look carefully, as well as listening for clues.

Writing Instructions

Our focus text type in literacy through this study was instructions.
Look at our powerpoint where we wrote a set of
instructions for completing the Detective Trail to match photos from our day.

We listed synonyms for the word 'look' so that we
did not repeat the word over again.
Can you find these synonyms in our instructions?

Descriptive Poetry and Music

We also wrote poems for some photos from
Maungatautari using our descriptive skills. Once
we had written the poems we set them to music
and recorded it. Watch and listen.

Do you think that our music represents the words in the poem?

Painting Techniques

We used a range of painting techniques to paint these pictures of the New Zealand Native bush.

Aim: to use a range of techniques so we did not need to paint using brush strokes.

For my brushing technique I used a rug roller for
my big trees trunk. For my korus dead leaves I
used a paint brush and splogs.
